For Valentine's Day, make aphrodisiac biscuits with lemon and candied ginger slices. Both sweet and slightly spicy, these shortbread biscuits will ravish sweet toothers palate.
Preparation time: 10 minutes • Cooking time: 12 minutes • Resting time: 3 hours
Ingredients for approx. 40 shortbread biscuits
- 150g soft butter
- 160g sugar
- 1 large egg
- 250g flour
- 80g candied ginger slices
- 2 pinches of salt
- 1 yellow lemon
Method
- Cut the strips of candied ginger into small cubes.
- Wash, dry and remove fine lemon zests.
- Whip the butter with sugar for 2 minutes.
- Add the egg and whisk again.
- Add both flour and salt.
- Work the dough until it is homogeneous and add both ginger and zest. Mix again.
- Shape the dough into a ball, flatten it with a rolling pin between two sheets of baking parchment to a thickness of 2-3 mm, put in the fridge for 3 hours.
- Pre-heat the oven to 160°C.
- Roll out the dough, cut out shapes using heart-shaped biscuit cutters and place the biscuits on a baking tray covered with baking paper.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and leave to cool.
- Store in an airtight tin or metal box.
